Fedepalma and its partners drive the Colombian Sustainable Palm Oil Program (APSColombia). The goal is to promote production, protection, and inclusion in the country’s Palm zones. Their approach aims to implement an innovative business model focused on positive differentiation and value generation throughout the supply chain.
This initiative aims to improve livelihoods, enhance food security, and boost agri-business performance, all within a landscape-oriented framework.

The project implementation began with the development of the 'APSColombia Protocol', a set of sustainability principles and transparency tools. The protocol was adopted by local agribusinesses across 11 palm oil clusters in two departments in northern Colombia: Magdalena and Cesar. These clusters involve more than 1,500 producers, of which 82% are smallholders, spanning an area of approximately 150,000 hectares.
Through this project, the Palm Oil clusters received support to adopt tailored agroecological and social practices, along with appropriate technologies. Additionally, their extension services have been strengthened to address local needs and align with sustainability best practices. This effort aims to build the capacity of Colombian Palm Oil regions to tackle pressing issues such as climate change, water imbalance, biodiversity loss, forest degradation, and rural poverty.
Herencia-VL has played a crucial role by providing specialized advice, facilitating top-level networking, and offering project design expertise. We have contributed to shaping the overall impact strategy of the program and crafting specific project plans. One of the focus aspects of our work within the project was establishing partnerships and mobilizing co-funding and resources.
