In Colombia, 9 out of 10 adolescent mothers drop out of school and do not receive any technical education. As a result, they often find themselves working in the informal sector, where they are vulnerable to labor and sexual exploitation and lack social security. To address this issue, the Juanfe Foundation runs a specialized program to support, integrate, and educate young mothers from marginalized neighborhoods in Cartagena.
With support from LAZ and BMZ, the Juanfe Foundation has implemented two projects to expand its network of stakeholders and extend the reach of its grassroots programs. These projects aim to enhance the capacity and opportunities for young women to secure stable, higher-paying jobs with social security benefits. By doing so, they aim to improve the quality of life for these young mothers and their families, while also enhancing the labor market offerings for socially inclusive companies and businesses in Cartagena.
